When my baby was still with us, I always had all her shots up to date and a note from the vet since she needed special dog food. All the times we have gone up to Canada and/or beyond to Alaska I was never asked for the paperwork. One time I was so proud of her papers and how I had them in a nice folder and I asked at the border....don't you want to see my baby's papers and he just looked at me and smiled and said...No thank you, you guys take better care of your pets than you do yourselves.
I would still make sure you have the paperwork in order. Better safe than sorry.
