We will be leaving from southern AZ at the end of April and hope to arrive in AK mid-late May.

We drove up in 15, size is not a big deal. We only had a problem once with our 35 ft fifth wheel and cc drw. There were no sites left in a private park that we would fit. Drove down the road a bit and found a site at another. If you don't mind drycamping most pulloffs are welcoming to overnite stays.
We're on the list for 18 see ya on the road.
