Roll Call Alaska 2018

Okay...I know 2017 hasn't even taken off, but those of you that remember me from Roll Call 2013 know that I plan well ahead of time, lol.
4 years is way too long to go without being in Alaska so we are heading up again. This time my sister (Barbara), her husband (Pat) and their baby poodle (Koko) are going with us with their Bounder. We are planning to leave from Bullhead City, AZ around the end of May.
Would love to get a roll call started if anyone else out there is as much of an early planner as I am.
For those of you heading up this year, have a safe and wonderful trip and maybe you will enjoy it so much that you will join us in 2018. :W

Got my 2018 TourSaver coupon book today!

I'm going to use my 2014 Milepost instead of getting a new one. May be some changes but I don't expect any real issues.

We still laugh about our 2012 trip when we paid $6.922 per US gallon of gasoline at mile 357 in Testa. The kicker was the "No Sniveling" sign written on cardboard and taped to the pump!

I don't know about fuel but one place we overnighted wanted $18.00 a 5 lb bag for ice cubes for our cooler. Far as I know the cubes are still in their freezer.

Beer in several places in northern BC and the Yukon was between $90.00 and $100.00 CDN per 30 pack.

Gas prices in BC have skyrocketed and it appears it's only going to get worse. One should be aware of the additional costs and plan accordingly. Rather than just tearing thru...spending longer, might be a way to mitigate the damage to the pocket-book.

Wise decision. When we went up in 2016 we had purchased a used 30 foot 5'er just for Alaska and it was plenty of trailer for the 3 of us and was plenty for many of the provincial campgrounds up north. Smaller sites and twisty narrow access roads to sites made it snug at times to shoehorn the 5'er into back in sites at some campgrounds.

A member of the RVing to Alaska Facebook page offered a great suggestion that I thought people on this site might enjoy also. The idea is to take an extra box of trash bags and use them to clean up messes that others have left while boondocking. If everyone pitches in we could really make a difference. I know we are going to do it.

Exactly! If everyone brought out a little more than they brought in....in a short time it would make a โ€œvery noticeableโ€ difference.

Hmmmmm..... we never saw a problem with trash.

When I use to go boating I always carried a trash bag and picked up a bag full of plastic that washed up on shore. It's a never ending battle.

That just helped make our decision to head to Fairbanks from Tok. I'm happy to hear they are going to repave that section of road. It has been sorely needed for several years now. Should be "smooth as glass" when we come out in late September!

Thanks for the heads-up!
