Roll Call Alaska 2018

Okay...I know 2017 hasn't even taken off, but those of you that remember me from Roll Call 2013 know that I plan well ahead of time, lol.
4 years is way too long to go without being in Alaska so we are heading up again. This time my sister (Barbara), her husband (Pat) and their baby poodle (Koko) are going with us with their Bounder. We are planning to leave from Bullhead City, AZ around the end of May.
Would love to get a roll call started if anyone else out there is as much of an early planner as I am.
For those of you heading up this year, have a safe and wonderful trip and maybe you will enjoy it so much that you will join us in 2018. :W

You can always do the drive and have her fly up and join you.

You can gain back a week or so if you leave home about a week before she is done. Then, she can fly our to meet you somewhere convenient. We did this with our daughters when we went up in 2015. We met them at the airport in Calgary after they finished work, and continued the drive from there.

I retire the end of March, but my DW won't be done until the end of the school year (late June). I figure we're losing out on about a month. So, as not to have to rush the trip, I think it more prudent to wait until 2019.

We'll be making our first drive in summer 2018. We're calling it our bucket list trip as we turn 70 and it's our 50th anniversary! Been there twice but this will be the first drive. Pulling a fiver from Ohio, initially planning on 8 weeks but being told that's not enough. Guess that's why we're planning early!

We'll be headed back to Alaska in 2018 to soak in more of the beauty and hit the places we missed in 2015. We'll most likely start again from Kerrville TX in late April as we did in 15.

In 15 we had to be in Tok May 19 to start our volunteer stint at Tetlin NWR not knowing what the weather would be we crossed the border at Sweetgrass MT on May 1.
Spent three nights in Banff then the Icefield highway to Jasper. The Icefield highway was socked in with fog,drizzel and intermittent snow. Couldn't see much other that the highway straight ahead. Skipped Jasper and went on to Hinton for the night. Planned on hittting the road again in the morning but we had 3-4 inches of wet snow and were advised to stay another night that the road north ould be in better hape by then. It was but with all the oil field traffic pulling out of construction roads it was soupy mud covered. Stopped in Grand Prairie for the night then on to the Alaskan Highway in the morning.

Weather the remainder of the trip was blue skies with many opportunities for wildlife viewing. A good reason to go slow besides the flagging.

We met several couples along the way as few RV parks were open that early though not traveling together we would stop at those that were. So we may meet some of you along the way in 18.

Having just retired in April, we are leaving on our first extended trip next week. We will be visiting family in GA, MI, WI, stopping along the way to enjoy different areas like Gatlinburg. Eventually we will head out west to Sturgis, SD for the biker rally in August, then onto Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and a few other places. We plan on returning home to Fla around the 1st of November. As excited as we are about our up coming trip, we can't help but feel this is a practice run for our Alaska trip in 2018.

We had planned to go again this year but we had to postpone it until next year. Frankly, I could travel there every year. As a full timer, Alaska is the only places we have visited that we would want to live permanently.

Don't forget the $$$$$ those hundreds of RVs will be pumping into the

Well we just cancelled our 2017 reservations because of medical reasons. We have moved all plans to 2018. Will be leaving the first part of June and return to the lower 48 in October.
