Only thing I can add is there are no services to speak of between Globe and Show Low, so be sure you're good for fuel.
I forgot that one. When my son was on his first towing journey with his young family, they didn't know this info. They drove through Globe and got to the bottom of the Salt River Canyon and were running on fumes. Fortunately, a good samaritan saw their plight and GAVE them five gallons of gas. My son tried to pay him, and he wouldn't accept. There are angels on the highway.
When we're heading north from Globe, we always fill up at the Chevron at the corner of the turn off. It has easy access for RVs. In Show Low, it's kind of tough some times to find a large station that is not packed with cars. - lane_hogExplorer IIOnly thing I can add is there are no services to speak of between Globe and Show Low, so be sure you're good for fuel.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIYou'll have no problems with your Newmar! It's a beautiful drive.
- Desert_CaptainExplorer IIIJim described it well. We have driven this stretch dozens of times and never come close to having a problem. Good road and spectacular scenery, lots of pullouts and passing lanes and if for any reason you can't keep up just move over. :C
- TucsonJimExplorer III drive it two or three times a year with my Pick up and FW. There are some very steep grades (8%+) and switchbacks in the Salt River Canyon. But the road is good. Just gear down on the down hills, and try to maintain your speed on the climbs. Allow traffic to pass when there is an opportunity, and you should be fine.
I've seen several fully loaded tractor/trailers use that route, and they make it. The only time I really sweat it is when it's 110 degrees out. But even then, the rig never seems to overheat.
