Route from Indianapolis to OBX

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I'll start here. We're taking a trip from southern Minnesota to the OBX (Waves/Rodanthe) this summer. We have been there before as part of a longer trip, but this time it is our main destination. Knowing how far we are able to travel in a day, I figure we'll get to Indianapolis on the first day (I already have a couple potential campgrounds in mind), another 500-600 miles on the second day, and arrive at the OBX in the early afternoon of the third day.

Any ideas on a good route from Indy to the OBX, and on a good place to stay overnight within a few hours of the OBX? Either interstates or major roads preferred. Pulling a 35 foot 5th wheel.

    From Indy to Va Beach, we take I-74 to I-275 around Cincy to I-75 to I-64. We travel this way at least once a year. You could also take I-65 to I-64.

    Imagine you will take US35 to I64. We find the drive through WV with hills and trucks to be very tiring, so you might find the 500 to 600 miles a bit much.

    Some places we have stayed include Douthat State Park just inside VA, the KOA near Stanton, Misty Mountain in Crozet, Americamp just north of Richmond. If you follow I64 then take I295 beltway on the north side of Richmond, Americamp is where I295 and I95 meet. That puts you about 2 hours from Virginia Beach so you should be late enough to miss rush hour (assuming you don't leave Richmond before around 8). Add about 1 1/2 hours from Virginia Beach to Waves... Crozet is just west of Charlottesville about 4 he's from VB.

    What are you traveling in?? at 850 miles, it is probably a bit more than one days travel.

    That's the best I can do with the info given.
    No reason for snide remarks about a part of the country you know nothing about. This is the area of the first American settlement in our country. Better to be thought ignorant than to open mouth and remove all doubt.

     - Commonly seen on small, oval bumper stickers and believed to mean "OuterBanks" but really denotes that the driver/owner of the vehicle is obnoxious.
    No common usage other than the annoying little white stickers.

    That's the best I can do with the info given.
