RV Travel Restrictions due to snow on PA interstates

FYI....Starting at 10:00 PM, tonight, Monday March 13, certain classes of vehicles, including RVs are banned from Pennsylvania interstate highways east of I-99 due to the impending snow storm.

Not that I expect that many people would want to drive through the storm anyway :)

But, if you are stuck in the area you probably want to start looking for a place to hunker down for a day or two.

The bulk of the storm will be over by late Tuesday but with high winds expected, I wouldn't be surprised if drifting is an issue into Wednesday or so.
  • Yeah, it's a relatively new route and runs up through State College and towards Williamsport. It "officially" ends in between those two places, but then if you continue north from W'port on US 15 towards Corning, as soon as you cross over the PA/NY border, it becomes I-99 again...odd.

Wikipedia says "Unlike most Interstate Highway numbers, which were assigned by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to fit into a grid, I-99's number was written into Section 332 of the National Highway System Designation Act of 1995 by Bud Shuster, then-chair of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the bill's sponsor, and the representative of the district through which the highway runs. I-99 violates the AASHTO numbering convention associated with Interstate Highways, since it lies east of I-79 but west of I-81."

    Here's the Wiki map...
  • My mistake. It number implies it should be along the far east coast east of I 95, just when you think you understand the federal highway numbering system they throw one like this at you.
  • There is a Interstate 99 in Pennsylvania. I drive it numerous times a year. Runs north from the PA Turnpike (I70 up past I80. Parts of it are still known as US 220. I believe the exit on I80 where it intersects is around mile post 160ish.
