I would definitely stay in Garner vs. Parkside so you can really enjoy the setting - even if it's only for one night. Parkside is fine; it's just more of an "RV Park" with close spaces, as opposed to a "campground" with lots of room. If you've never stayed in Garner, you'll really like it.
Also: Palo Duro Canyon is really nice but I agree it's not a good overnight stop unless you just happen to be driving through Canyon, TX.
Also liked Santa Fe Skies RV Park in Santa Fe. And BTW - there's a good public parking lot in downtown Santa Fe (1 block from the plaza) that has big spots for RV's. We drove our motorhome down there - a bit tight in places, but there were bigger coaches in there too. You might even be able to boondock in there overnight, if you're so inclined.
