RVing from Vancouver BC to DisneyLand

4th night, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, south of Eureka CA
5th night, Fernwood Resort, Big Sur.

The 5th night may be an issue as the road from Carmel to Fernwood is mostly 25 MPH or less to Fernwood, the the same from Fernwood to San Simeon where you can do 55+ to Hwy 46 and over to 101 for your trip south. The part from 46/101 to Disneyland is 5 or so hours depending on day of week and time of day. Traffic in Los Angeles/Orange county on I-5 can ne a nightmare.

How's the planning going? We're thinking of a similar one from AB, maybe Oct/Nov? Where are you planning to camp near DL?

We are here in Seattle and our trip is almost the same - but not really :)

I started off with a really ambitious plan, that involved lots of places in Oregon and California until finally arriving at Disneyland, but then I thought that some of those things are definitely a second or third trip for us. We decided for example, that Crater Lake and Big Sur are probably best enjoyed with our AWD SUV rather than a 39' class A. Next year, right? :) And we can pretty much get any long weekend to do the Oregon coast, since we are so close.

We will be doing overnights in Eugene and Redding before settling for 4 nights in SF where we can probably do wine country for one day and/or the beaches.

Then we will stop for a couple nights in Solvang to enjoy Santa Barbara as well and just relax after much walking in SF.

Then we will stay for 4 nights again in Anaheim where we probably just want to do Disney.. but it might be that we just get a two day hopper. When we come back we are saying overnights in Sacramento and Eugene again (where we have friends).

We are also going on the last couple weeks of August, see you at Disneyland! And your trip looks awesome, I can't wait to hear more about it.

If you wish to go to Astoria from Port Angeles I would suggest that you take 101 to 108 to 8 to 107 then back on 101.

I drive this route twice a year going to and from the Oregon coast and it is an excellent route. Not much traffic and I usually drive at 55mph.

dsaj, I'm with All58Parks, I took a quick look on S&T. Your trip is quite doable in my view. In my younger days I made quite a few trips like this in this time frame and have been to most all the locations you mention including doing the Coho from Victoria, down the Oregon Coast, Anaheim, San Diego etc in a single trip.

But I would forget doing CA1 (Big Sur etc this go round. It's wonderful but leave it for another time) south of San Francisco and, south of Willits, use US 20 to cut over from US 101 to I5. You would have some relatively long driving days on this trip but you should also then have sufficient time in Anaheim and San Diego to make it worth while. There are lovely ocean beaches not far from Anaheim. Our favorite place to stay while there is now Orangeland RV Park just off Katella a bit east of Disney but, as you probably know, there are a number of RV parks closer to Disney. In the past we've also stayed in ocean front parks near Huntington Beach (I suspect fully booked up by now). Yes, if you have never done it before, go over to Tijuana.

I would also leave the jet boat thing for another trip and beeline it home to BC from San Diego leaving more time in Anaheim (and area, at least 4 nights would be nice) and San Diego (3 nights). Enough stuff to do near both cities for many trips.

OK - I am from Victoria as well, and have done the coast (N. & S. many times).. To catch the 6am Coho you have to be there at 5am, or spend overnight at the terminal. HUMM - early start! By the time you clear customs it will be 8am Then 101 out to I-5, south to Longview/Kelso and west on 30 to Astoria. Nehalem State Parkwould be a GOOD 1st night stop - north of Tilamok - super park. About 6-7 hr drive( 300 mi.)
101 in Aug will be a ZOO south. - Lots of parks BUT lots of traffic, HOWEVER ALL the parks will be on the right(west) side of 101 S.

I am thinking MIN. 4/5 days (no stops) to Calif. near Aneheim (for Disney) add a couple of days for the mouse and you are over 1/2 your time.

I would forget Sandyeggo and zoo - spend more time on the coast route - do disney, then hit I-5 for back home.

When you get into Wash.(coming back) a GOOD RV park is MIDWAY RV Pk. in Centrailia - about 3-1/2 - 4 hrs to Pt Angeles, out 101.

I'm afraid that you are trying to do too much in too short of time. I would decide if the beaches OR Disney ae your main objective and trim the trip from there... Coming straight down I5, I would cut over at Longview/Kelso to Astoria and down to Cannon Beach RV resort or Fort Stevens (if you can get in). If you want to continue down to Honeyman, I would suggest stopping for a night at Beverly Beach or South Beach state parks before heading down to Honeyman. If Disney is still in the plans, I would cut over to I5 & head for Disney from there. If you want to hit a California beach, I would keep it to central or north California to save time. Forget San Diego & Tiajuana this trip to save time. Run back up I5 when done.

Dave...you had asked the question in an open forum, and I think by and large, all of the respondents indicated that your plans/routings were a tad ambitious. I, as well as probably everyone else that posted, have done that drive many times and our experience says...this is trouble. 'Can' you do it? You betcha. Will it be a fun and relaxing adventure? I doubt it. As the latest poster observed, twisty, slow, lots of traffic. So, I would question, why are you doing it this way?

I am not wishing you ill fortune, in fact, just the opposite. I would want you and your family to have the best ever trip, doing it your way. I just don't see how it can be so, is all.

Am I completely crazy thinking I can do this, or am I on track ?
We want to try to be back for the 5:30 ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria on the 27th

Some of your travel days are going to be long. Along the coast highway your going to encounter roads that are curvy and demand a lot of concentration, also many little towns that you have to slow down when navigating thru. It's not like a big Interstate where you can just set the cruise control and eat up the miles. We usually find 250-300 miles is plenty in a day along the 101 Highway, but that's just us.

Cheers Ray, have a great time, we just finished camping along the Oregon coast on the way back from snowbirding and loved it as always.

So Gary, I gather from your comment that you don't thing we can pull that off ?
Never done this before, so am looking to those who have and can advise me.
