Sikeston, MO to Paducah, KY

Trying to get from Springfield, MO to Nashville, TN & Mapquest is sending me up I-57 in the Sikeston, MO area almost to Marion, IL then I-24 back down to Paducah. It looks like Hwy 60/62 cuts across KY in the Charleston, MO area over to Paducah. Does anyone have info on this highway? Can't imagine why MQ would send me almost twice the distance instead of this road. We're in a 45 ft. & towing. Any assistance will be very much appreciated! JL
  • In April the Mississippi River Bridge was restricted to one way traffic......better than meeting the 18 wheelers.
  • If the bridge is open at Cairo take a right at the T in Wickliffe then left at the next stop light. Go a few blocks and veer left at the Dollar General. This is #286 and avoids the mess (mall, chain stores, chain restaurants etc) in Paducah before you get to the interstate. 286 merges with 62 and also shaves 3-4 miles off. I drive it whenever I got to Paducah from Sikeston.
  • Thank you all for your very valuable info!! This forum and the people that respond are just priceless and have helped us so many times in our travels! JL
  • They are working on the IL/KY bridge over the Ohio river at Cairo.

Might want to check that out before taking that route.
  • Crossed on US-60 several times, once with RV. The roads and bridges are narrow, compared to more moden highways, but still wide enough for the heavy truck traffic that uses the route. Much of the route with minimal shoulder width, bar ditches close to the road. There are a few small towns to work your way through, but if the big trucks can handle it, RV driver should be able.

For Springfield to Nashville, I prefer US-60 to Sikeston, I-55 down to I-155, then from Dyersburd US-412 to join I-70 near Jackson. The road is better, moves faster, tha US-60 in Kentucky. I use 60 through Kentucky if going to Land Between the Lakes from Springfield, or to follow it further northeast, e.g. to Evansville. It is not the best route for Nashville as a destination, but good for places north on I-24 like Fort Campbell or Clarksville.
  • If you select "options" on Mapquest and change it from fastest route to shortest distance, it will route you via US60. We have driven US 60 in our Class A with toad, but there is a narrow bridge on route 60 at Cairo. You can see a photo of it on google maps if you drag the little guy over to it on satellite format. The road itself isn't bad just parts are 2 lane. I prefer the fastest route on Mapquest. Check both fastest and shortest and see how many miles are different then choose.
