South NJ to North Myrtle Beach

Heading to MB Travel Park in North Myrtle. Will be overnighting in Roanoke Rapids NC. Looking for the best route from Roanoke Rapids to North Myrtle. Would like to avoid as much of 17 as possible (traffic lights). Suggestions?
Yhanks in advance :)

Well. You could just run 95 to HWY 74, to HWY 410, to HWY 701, to SC 9, to 31, to 22, and onto Kings highway, and that is where MBTP is located. You have NEVER touched 17 even once. It's good roads all the way.
That is our route from home.

410, and 701 are 2 lane roads, but are plenty wide. Worth it just to be able to skip all of 17, and end up on the road you want.

Thanks, will check the map. Don't mind 2 laners.

Took this route there and back. No stress driving. Will use this route again :)

    Thanks!!
  • Terryallan's directions are what we use every time we travel from Toms River, NJ to MB. That's done at least 6 times a year!!! You leave I 95 at exit 13 in Lumberton, NC and enjoy a stress-free trip.
  • I know you want to avoid 17 but here is another option:
Take 40 toward Wilmington NC off 95

Just before Wilmington take the Brunswick County Beach ( 17 S ) exit

Take 17S toward MB, 10 miles S of Shallotte NC turn right on Hickman Road ( 1/2 mile past Brunswick Golf Plantation )

Follow Hickman Road to State line, then keep straight on SC rd ( 57 I think ), about 8-10 miles

Turn left @ light about 4 miles into SC then after 1/2 mile get on 31 bypass which will carry you to / around MB

Only 2 lane will be about 8-10 miles ( Hickman Rd / SC57 ). You will be on 4 lane 17 when on it. Also, on Hickman Road just at State line there is a great little farm market, fresh veggies etc. Indigo Farms..I think they have a website.
