Currently in toad river cg..we enjoyed it so much we ended up staying 4 days! great wifi (free) at all sites if you need it. i was even able to make phone calls on skype with it.We'll be leaving tomorrow to spend 1 night at muncho lake and then will stop at Liard Hot Springs...i recall that in 2008 there was a huge spot right across from the entrance where we parked for a few hours while we went in to the springs. is that area still available to pull into (for a 42' mh?)also, is the provincial park adequate for our size rig? we would like to spend the night but don't want to pull into the Liard hot springs lodge...if we can't fit into the pp, can we spend the night in that parking spot?thanks...also, any good suggestions on where to camp in watson lake? we'll probably want a hook up by that time...thanks

Yep you can pull right into that spot across the highway have done so many times. Go to the back part against the trees less likely to have a highway truck close by that way.I honestly cant remember the size of the campsites but you can walk across the highway and ask the attendant in the little hut they will let you know about your size of rig. If it's after hours they have an odd way of marking the empty spots you'll want to read the sign by the door.Glad you enjoyed Toad River...what a beautiful part of the highway.

There are numerous spots at Liard that fit our truck and fifth wheel, with a 43' total length. It's a nice spot to overnight.The open area across the highway is available at no cost. I'm not a fan of it though because it is dirty (large garbage bins there and the garbage tends to get scattered all over). As well, it is used by semi trucks stopping for a break so it can be busy. Whereas the campground is peaceful, clean and you get your own space.In Watson Lake your choice is limited...the Downtown RV Park is likely where you'll end up. It isn't much more than a gravel parking lot with posts for services, and for Wi-Fi you need to be very close to the office or go sit by the office. This park is close to the grocery store, just a block away, so easy to walk. Wye Lake Park is just up the road too, with many hiking trails and good birding if you're into that.

When we stopped there last month there was plenty of room in the parking lot inside the gate at the park for our rig. (approx 60') The lot across the highway is open but for $10. we chose to support the Springs and have secure parking right next to the boardwalk! IMO Liard is the best hot spring on the ALCAN. I really like that they haven't created a cement swimming pool atmosphere!Glad you had a good experience at Toad River. The lake was still frozen when we came through so didn't see much wildlife!

Can someone describe the access to the hot springs from a handicap perspective. She can scooter from the parking lot through the board walk if there are no step or obstructions. She can go down stairs with braces on if the steps are not too slippery, and the water entrance to steps reaches the bottom. We will be there in about 3 weekspops

At the pool, the steps are all new (the old ones were getting pretty slippery), they go right to the bottom of the pool and they have steel handrails on both sides. There are some underwater benches in the middle of the pool that get adults about chest or neck-high in the water. I shot a video in February that gives a good look at the new facilities.

if you're traveling today(tuesday 6/3) anywhere near mile 370 (near summit lake) be careful...we had lots of rain in toad river (with snow on the nearby mountains) and cars/trucks/rvs are coming in from summit where they said they had 6+ inches last night...

Thanks for the accessibility comments it sounds very doable. Discoloration is a nonissue as she will use her spare/old braces. Metal/concrete stair sounds very good

Our 40' MH easily fit in Liard's campsite - but not all. However, it does fill fast. Best if you can get there in the morning.

In 2008, I spent the night in the free parking lot across from the campground. Then pay the $5.00 to go swimming.

After the swim, I was sitting outside and took this photo across the road near the entrance of the campground.

The ranger (?) came out of the campground and by fireing blanks chase the visitor away.

Needless to say I make sure off the food was locked up inside that night. . . :R

Pops, the boardwalk has no steps or obstructions. It is fine by wheelchair. It starts off as gravel but easily transitions to boards.

The pool was updated in winter of 2012/13 so the stairs into the pool are stable and solid now. The pool bottom is gravel/dirt but the steps go to the pool bottom.

With the upgrade they put in a stair that is metal & concrete with an elevated platform at the top, so accessible for those sitting in a wheelchair. One would need to bum-scoot down the stairs or step down with assistance from the solid handrail.

It is possible to take canes or braces into the pool but keep in mind that the minerals in the water can discolor things or cause reactions between metals.
