- S-n-LExplorerI would highly recommend Black's in Lockhart, not too far. Absolutely fabulous bbq.
FYI, I have been a Kansas City BBq society certified BBQ judge for over 10 years and know bbq. - IslandmanExplorerWe'll be in the New Braunfels area next week, anyone have recommendations on Texas Barbeque up there? And sounds like Black's down in SA is worth the drive if nothing real great up in New Braunfels. Also, how about the Austin area? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give us.

Could the name of the place you mentioned be TEXAS PRIDE? My son and daughter-in-law took us there and it was really good. I am not sure exactly where it is but is out in the country.
I don't remember . the name but maybe someone else knows it. A place kind of up in the hills, I think it was to the east of SA. A little ways out. DW's cousin took us there while visiting. It was good stuff!
Texas Pride is east of SA . Not sure which highway. Maybe 1601. This was one of three places that was featured on Diners, Drive=ins and Dives that I have been to. No impressed a bit. Place was filthy greasy and in my opinion the food was not that good. - Tom_TrostelExplorer

Head an hour up the road to Lockhart, some of the best barbecue anywhere:
Blacks BBQ
Smitty's Market
Kreuz Market
If I could only do one it would be Blacks.
They are all good but Blacks is my favorite. - EsoxLuciusExplorerSan Antonio? The Big Bib!

I agree with Rudy's great smoked Barbeque.

Chiefneon - ddndougExplorerFunny story about restaurant suggestions....
We were in Dallas-Fort Worth area and when we travel we like to try LOCAL restaurants, so we asked at check-in where would be a good local place to have a good steak. The response we received, "Well, down hear we have a really good restaurant called "Lone Star Steakhouse". I thanked her for her recommendation and proceeded to drive around until we found a local establishment with good recommendations online.

X2 for Cooper's. Brisket is awesome!
All three Cooper's locations are fantastic - Llano, Georgetown and Ft. Worth stockyards.
There's a Cooper's BBQ in Junction, but it's a different outfit and not nearly as good.
BTW, the Cooper's in Georgetown might be a bit easier to get to and closer to San Antonio since it's just up I-35. But the one in Llano has the best small town atmosphere.
