we are planning a trip to Texas for this spring. I'm trying to plan a rout from Corpus Christy to Caddo Lake. we are in no hurry on this trip and would like to stay along the gulf to Louisiana and then north up through Texas or Louisiana. I don't know any of those roads but prefer lesser traveled routs and to avoid the larger cities. we are pulling a 30' TT. any suggestion on routs would be appreciated.

^^^ GOOD INFO^^^ I-10 @ Winnie take E-73 to Port Arthur and catch N-87 again, up thru the Deep East Texas piney woods. Then 96 & 59 to Caddo Lake area.

You might want to try:
out of Corpus 181 to 35 all the way up to 36 at West Columbia
take 36 down to Freeport and work your way over to 332
332 to 257 and straight in to Galveston and across the free ferry to Bolivar Peninsula and take 87 up to 124 and onward to 10 which takes you to Beaumont. From there you should be able to figure out the rest of it yourself.
If you are carrying any gas cans put them out of sight if using the Ferry.
I've pulled my 40 foot 5th wheel along that route multiple times with no issues.
I've been to all 50 States but my RV hasn't.

I've always enjoyed the drive up the Bluewater Highway from Surfside, TX to Galveston. I usually spend some time at Quintana Beach County Park and then head for Galveston State Park before going on into LA.

There's small toll bridge that is a little tight but entirely doable.

There is no road along the coast between Corpus and Houston. You may cross a couple of bays, one at Rockport and another at Port Lavaca. Other than that the roads are all inland.

we stopped and checked out a small RV park on Caddo Lake. Mom and pop, small boat rentals, on the south side of the lake, sorry don't remember the name. small well kept restroom in the main building. they said that they had had a bunch of movie folks stay while a film was shot on Caddo. possibly with Van Damme but I have sort of checked out all his films and can't find one that fits. they said there were lots of explosions, gun fire, etc. during the filming.
