THE # 1 tourist destination in the WORLD !!
WORLD'S #1 ,,,,, AND GOING VIA RV !!!
Yesterday I was reading a tourist magizine and surprised to see the World's #1 tourist attraction is Machu Picchu in Peru. see http://www.tripadvisor.com/TravelersChoice-Attractions-cLandmarks-g1-a_Mode.expanded
I was especially surprised because I am about to depart on the RV Expedition that actually goes to this destination, the highest city in the world, over 14k feet, and this Incas monument is now the world's destination.
You can't drive the RV there, but go from Cisco, which is the launching point. We actually visited in October of 2008. A REALLY good guide of the ruins is a must! Don't forget about the mountain, Wayna Picchu, too. You can climb it for a view of the ruins below if there aren't clouds covering them. It's a hard hike up stone steps that are carved into the mountain, but worth it!
Be prepared for rain in the mornings!! When the locals and tourist info say to bring ponchos, they mean it. We hiked Wayna in the rain and that made the steps slick, so exercise caution and be sure to hold on to the chain when it's there! I'd be a goner if I hadn't! It's a beautiful hike, though!
