TIP Renewal question?

I find that hard to believe! It is after all a Temporary Import Permit.

From what I have read, the Vehicle must be either removed from Mexico upon the Expiry of the Permit or Taxes Must be Paid ,which might be pretty steep!

I would think that the vehicle would be allowed to return to Mexico on another TIP ,but can't imagine one being issued without the Old One being cancelled at the Border first.

That said maybe it has been down there for so long that the paperwork has been discarded ??

In my search I have found a handful of vague references to TIP renewal but nothing definitive.

I wonder what the duty/taxes would be on an older trailer like my '92?

All over Mexico there are entire communities where people have built palapas around old RVs and turned them into beach houses and such. How they do this I do not know. I doubt anyone pays taxes or renews permits. We have seen these communities in the Baja - in Ensenada - and all the way to Paa Mul in the Yucatan. We have also heard of the gov't going in to some of these communities and bulldozing them - south of Mulege - as well as other areas. We know people who have parked 5th wheels with no intention of ever moving them again - and no intention of telling anyone or worrying about it as they have no plans to ever bring any other RV into Mexico. Making laws does not always take into consideration the ability to enforce those laws.

Hi to all...if you go to www.aduanasmexico.com or just in google on Aduanas Mexico then go to casas rodantes it means travel trailer or motor home and there there is a part for your TIP renewal and here it is what you will find.....

Los interesados podrán solicitar un nuevo “Permiso de importación temporal de casa rodante”, para la misma casa rodante por un plazo de diez años, siempre que realicen el trámite de importación temporal hasta con 15 días de anticipación al vencimiento del permiso vigente, vía internet a través de la página www.banjercito.com.mx o en cualquiera de los Módulos CIITEV, sin que en este último caso se requiera la presentación física de la casa rodante.

Go for it and yes it can be done......any thing you guys need around Hermosillo Sonora just let me know....

My Spanish is inadequate. I think that is saying that I can renew on the Internet up to 15 days prior to expiration. However I don't fully understand the last part.

Hard to say at this point. Original plan was to leave tomorrow. Unfortunately that was based on the sale of our house closing almost two weeks ago.

Fortunately, we are supposed to sign closing docs this afternoon. If all goes as planned we may be on the road by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

We will likely overnight in Grants Pass and Stockton then spend 3-4 days in Orange County before continuing on to overnight in Nogales.

Looks like 7 days from here to San Carlos. That would land us there around the 29th.
