- HARLYGL94ExplorerI realize going around is a lot farther but I'm wondering if I should travel through the city with a 30 foot RV
- sch911ExplorerI you're not going through during peak traffic times I'd go straight through on I95.
- HARLYGL94ExplorerYes but if you stay on I-95 don't you still have to go through Providence city? Or should I go for 95 to Route 24?
- HARLYGL94ExplorerIn the last post should've said 495

- demoonExplorerWhere are you coming from and where are you going? Not sure I understand the 495 or 95 option,
- HARLYGL94ExplorerI am coming from Springfield mass to Westport mass and I see that I can go around Providence Rhode Island if I stay on 495 but it might be a longer trip than if I go through I-95
- gregrc75ExplorerI live right near Westport. If you want to avoid Providence I would go Mass Pike to 495 south, to 24 south, to 195 east, then to 88south (Westport exit).
Going through Providence you can go Mass Pike, to 146 south into Providence, merges with 95 south and then take 195 east.
In all actuality, going the longer way via 495 is only going to take, at most, 15-20 mins longer. What I usually do is check the traffic map on my phone because 495 can have as much traffic as downtown Providence since 495 is more associated with Boston traffic patterns.
I head out the the Berkshires often since my sister lives there so I am pretty familiar with that drive. - jplante4Explorer III'm headed from Cape Cod to upstate NY next week. I plan to do I-495 N to I-95 S to I-295 S to 146 to Worcester to pick up the Mass Pike. I decided to avoid Providence this time, but I have been through several times. As others have said, it depends on the time of day. Greg's route is fine, Using the 95-295-146 route cuts off a corner and the traffic at the 495-Mass Pike interchange.

To answer your initial question, Yes you could go Mass Pike, 495, 95 through Providence to 195 with a 30 ft MH.... BUT there are some friction points that can be tough if you don't know the road well. The S curves through Pawtucket are not that bad if you watch the road carefully and watch out for the idiot lane changers. Worse than that is the section from the 146 merge with 95 to the 195 ramp (which was moved from the left lanes to the right lanes a few years back). There is also some construction work going on there now and it is easy to get in a lane that exits to "never never land"!

- side note, I hate going down 146 to 95 in a car, I used to do that ride often to/from both Worcester and Woonsocket -
I think Mass pike (90) to 495 to 24 down to 95 in Fall River is a much easier and probably faster route and a less stressfull ride. I have not been on 24 in a few years but it used to be an easy road.
