Traveling to San Antonio Tx

Heading to San Antonio from Idaho, will be going through Albuquerque and then either through Clovis NM or Roswell NM. Need place to park for night. Will be arriving late in evening, any suggestions would be helpful. Also info if one way is better than the other. Thanks
  • Just east of Roswell I think around 13 miles is bottomless state park, with swimming and hiking trails http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/bottomlesslakesstatepark.html
Call ahead or you may not get in or 50amp, we love stopping there on our way back home in the spring. Also while in Roswell stop by & see Dr Robert Goddard's 1930's work shop "father of the rocket", it is in the city art museum in town.

  • Free Hookups in Texas 50A.

Maybe 25 miles southeast of Clovis NM on US 84 is Muleshoe TX with free camping/hookups. The food is great at the Dinner Bell and Leal's if you like Mexican food. About 30 miles southeast from Muleshoe just 2 or so blocks north of US 84 on US 385 in Littlefield where there is another free hookup campground. And good food can be found there too.

Edited to say, Muleshoe can fill easy but Littlefield has about 2 dozen sites.
  • Not too far south of Roswell, a little south of Artesia, is the Carlsbad KOA. Would stay there again if in the area.
  • In Albuquerque, about 5 miles south on I 25, exit 215, is the Isleta Casino and RV park. the park is down close to the river, full hookups, nice shower house, etc.
If you continue south, take 380 east to Roswell then continue south on 285 to Ft. Stockton.
At Ft. Stockton, there is a dinky rv park called Commanche Land RV that might be pretty full of oil well workers, but they are generally quiet and well behaved, etc. full hookups available there. Take the access road on the north side of I 10 (don't cross the interstate)and go east about a mile or less.
