Trona-Wildrose Road open? Now with flash flood pix!

We'll be leaving for D. V. in a couple days and I tried to find out on here what the disposition of the Trona-Wildrose road is currently. After searching and finding nothing current, I'm asking the people that know (that would be you) what the road conditions are. A couple years ago a long stretch of pavement was washed away completely and Inyo County, as cash strapped as it is, took its time to repave the washout. But the stretch from the 'Y' north eastward to Wildrose is what i need info on. Is it passable with 4WD? I looked up the Caltrans road reports, the Inyo county road conditions, CHP links, and it looks like all the I.T.'s are on holiday.

Yes, it's do-able to do Titus in a dualie/LB/4x4 truck. I think bro had to double pump his L.B. Ford/leaf springs front, once or twice on the real sharp turns. No big deal. There is not that much traffic. And, they can wait anyway. A guy in a dualie Dodge followed me down into the canyon, but I soon lost him as he stopped to take more pix that I did.

    I think I'll give it a try!

  • Not to hijack the thread, but...... can I take my longbed dually crewcab down titus canyon? Going April 7th for a week and I'm concerned about length and width with the switchbacks. We were there about 7 years ago with a smaller truck, but titus was closed so we couldnt do it..

    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Yes, that white stuff is hail from the thunderous passing storm.

  • There was a lot of excitement after we got to the Trona-Wildrose 'Wye'. Yes indeed, the road was cerado:

It's what happened just after that going south on the Trona-Wildrose road:

yes, that's a lot of rain and hail in a short time producing a flashflood, just in that area. After meeting up with bro John, we had more watery waterways:

This was on the road south from Ballarat to the entrance to Goler Wash.
It was exciting to see the dry lake become completely filled with a shallow puddle of water in about 10 minutes.

  • Alright. The DV daily report has the dope. Road closed. So is this thread.
    thanks for all your input.
I will post a T.R. after we're done. We're planning on going up Goler Wash to sniff around places like Charlie Manson's hideout, the Stripped Butte, and Geologists Cabin before moving into the Valley proper and motating slowly north. There is a lot to see and experience in the Park, and 8 days is so marginal. Grinding upstream into the narrows in Marble Cyn., in 2008 with Rick4x4x4. Yes, that's the road.

    regards, as always, jefe
  • The National Park facebook page has some entries on the Trona-Wildrose road, but most date from last October

Since this road is mostly in the National Park, I would not expect the state DOT to have information on it (it isn't a state highway). And if it isn't the county's responsibility either, it won't have info.
  • I was through there, last weekend, and the road from the junction N to Wildrose is signed and closed.
