US 129 Macon to Athens GA?

Thinking about taking US 129 from Macon to Athens, GA on our way north. We are thinking of stopping somewhere near the Blue Ridge Parkway for a couple days of Harley riding on our way from central Florida to Campbellsville KY.

Doesn't have to be the quickest route but wondering if US 129 is 4 lane divided or narrow two lane?

Maybe take US 411 out of Athens to I-85, to I-26, to I-40. Just tired of I-75.

Would appreciate any advise from those more familiar with that area. Thank you.

Starts out divided 4 to Gray and then 2 lanes even after it joins up with 441. Some 3-4 lanes at I=20 but 2 lanes to almost Athens, then divided 4 around Athens. I would use 441 to I=85 and it's 4 with some divided. Overall not a bad route.

    Thanks!
  • OP here - We did get off of I-75 at Macon. Took US 129 north to US 441 to US 23 into Waynesville, NC. Stayed at Pride RV. Nice place. Would take that route again. Only 1 mile from I-40 when we left. Thanks to Ivylog for the information.
