us 65 south from branson

Going from Branson to Tampa and was thinking us 65 south from branson to I40 but not wanting narrow roads in a 36' DP with toad. I'm open to suggestions.
  • Thanks for the quick replies. Just left the Amish country in SE Ohio and the hills were not a problem but the very narrow roads, no edge or center lines and very little visibility around the curves kept me well below the limit. The locals were not happy but that is what it is. The way out of the Amish we stayed on some better truck routes and all is good. We are not in a hurry and will then be spending 6 months at a snowbird site.

Thanks for the info and enjoy the lifestyle.
  • As we live in Branson and travel 65 both North and South all the time its a great road for being in the Ozarks. When you travel through Harrison stay in the left lane as the right lane is rather tight to the curb. Our 37 MH with tow dolly has no problem at all.

Sit back and enjoy the driving in the Ozarks
  • We towed our 35' 5er on US 65 from Branson to I-40 and it was no problem at all. Been about 5 years but I wouldn't think much has changed.
  • If you're not in a hurry, take 65 south to Harrison Arkansas, then route 412 east. The road is a good 2-lane, twisty and hilly in the Ozarks, but quite doable with your setup. We did it in our 33 footer with toad and had no problems. Very scenic and relaxing and a lot of small towns. It eventually takes you to Jackson, TN where you can get on I40. We were heading to Birmingham, AL and took 2-lanes (can't remember routes) to Birmingham. Stayed off interstates as much as possible. Good Luck!
  • The part of the 65 I've been on (I didn't go all the way to the 40), Branson going south was fine. I don't think you're going to find a straight road in the hills of MO and AR. I checked my Motor Carriers Atlas for the 18 wheeler crowd and the 65 is an approved route for them.
