We are camping on the island right now. It is definitely the topic of conversation among the camping community here. Those on the other side are hunkering down as dragging their rv’s out over the forestry roads is not advisable. It has also caused a little congestion on this side of the closure as those who were heading for ucluelet etc are now trying to extend their stays on this side of the mountains.
Fortunately it’s not that bad as school is still in and many campgrounds have room. We have been in the living forest campground in Nanaimo for 6 days. Good spot to use as a base while hiking some of the more popular trails and parks in the area. But headed for Goldstream provincial park tomorrow for three days and then on to port Renfrew for three days before heading over the mountain to Rathtrevor provincial park for 3 days. After that we are crossing back over to the mainland and the Sunshine Coast. If you are a smaller unit it’s really easy to just show up and get a spot but if you are bigger best to make sure by calling ahead.
We have rain today so hopefully that will knock the fires down somewhat.
Stay safe out there.
