Vancouver to Whitehorse in 46 Hours

Over the weekend, I brought a car up from Vancouver for a friend who has just moved to Whitehorse. I've posted a couple of articles on my blog, with a total of 52 photos that may give you some ideas of what there is to see up the Fraser Canyon, and along the Yellowhead and Stewart-Cassiar in particular. One of the surprises for me was that the unspoiled wilderness that made much of the Stewart-Cassiar Highway unique is now history, with a large powerline along (or over) hundreds of km of it - there are several photos of that. The first post is at http://bit.ly/199vOp9.

    DOH! Fixed - thanks!
  • Nice pics of the Fraser Canyon. I drive that route all too often and never get tired of it.

There is one mistake in your narrative though.

I reached Lillooet, at the junction of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers, at 4:15 pm.

    This should read:

  • I drove the same routes in August 2006 and saw some of the same sites. I actually took some of the same pictures. A very beautiful drive back in 2006. Saw a lot of wildlife. I believe BC is every bit as beautiful as Alaska. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful pictures ... can't wait to see the rest ...

Thanks - the rest (ie Quesnel-Whitehorse via the Stewart-Cassiar) are linked from the right side of the top and bottom of that article, or here is the direct link.
  • I drown that road about 18 years ago. I recall that there were long stretches of gravel(I recall something like 500km of unpaved road?). It looks pretty well maintained now.

Still a beautiful drive, even with pavement and power lines.
