Seeing whales is on my wife's bucket list and since we are going to Alaska this year I thought this might be the time to cross that off of her list. Does anyone have any experience with viewing whales in Alaska? Thanks.

Any of the whale watching or glacier cruises will yield whale sightings and while not as "whale oriented", the few times I've been out halibut/salmon fishing out of Seward we saw several whales as well, plus for about the same $ came home with bags of yummy and expensive halibut. And if you time your trip right you can keep lingcod and salmon too. On a good day you can catch close to enough fish to pay for your trip if you bought that fish at the store or fishmarket.
Not a comfort cruise like the whale glacier tours though. If you are active, go fishing and see whales. If you are prone to sea sickness and want luxury and somewhere to relax out of the weather take a tour/cruise.

We did a cruise through the inside passage and one morning we stopped in the midst of a whole pod, there were whales everywhere. What we didn't see up there was the breaching that we saw farther south in Bandares bay.

get a Tour Saver Coupon Book. It will list a lot of places to take boat tours to see Alaska wildlife. Just google tour saver coupons. Saves a lot of money. you can take tours out of most towns that are on the water.

Alaska is not the only place to see whales, if you will be on the Oregon coast you can take a great trip out of Depoe Bay for Whale Watching. Then again maybe you could do both.

We had a home just south a ways and watched them all summer long from our living room and dining room, out front on the bluff too.

We saw them at Seward and Haines boat trips. The Haines/Juneau Fjord Express went 8 miles south of Juneau for the whales. But even w/o whales the trips are great.

We saw them while we were on a fishing trip out of Sitka.

For excursions, just Google Alaska Whale Watching and you will come up with a ton of info.
