What is I-10 like? Las Cruces,NM to Tucson,AZ

Going to travel west on I-10 from Las Cruces,NM into Tucson ,AZ.
A camper I met in TX said the road was bad...bumpy...
Is it ok?
  • We just came through there a couple months ago and will be headed that way again in a few weeks. We didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Basically it's a good road.....Dennis

Depends what you compare it against.
next to the I 10 in calif, its great
  • As I remember it is long and boring. No rougher than any other interstate I have been on.
  • Watch for the cross winds between Willcox and Benson. Expecting a storm system this weekend. Some road construction between Benson and Tucson. Watch the 18 wheelers to drift in the wind ahead of you and you won't be surprised. Traffic as you get closer to Tucson. Hope that helps.
  • Currently in Fredericksburg,TX...will be heading that way in a week...thanks for the heads up..Rob

Same here, been on a lot worse roads.

As was noted watch for high wind warnings and if you get into blowing dust get OFF the road. Not just the shoulder - fully off the road with lights off, especially brake lights.
  • Went thru there last July, from Las Cruces NM to L.A. CA. Some wind, lotsa dust devils, but no real problems. Basic slab travel.

Boring, from El Paso take the two lane road, work your way back up to 10 when you feel like it.
  • Drove through in a satellite truck (read: heavy) the week before Quartzsite. It's long and boring, but NOTHING compared to the road from San Antonio to El Paso. As far as rough road, we had no complaints whatsoever.
