I have been to Mexico with friends that tow their FW with a MDT. Atually we have been twice with them. So you can take a MDT, personal not for hire truck, into Mexico.

The high cost of diesel - both in the US and Mexico has made the almost 7K mile round trip from Maine less likely. $2,800 just to get to and from where we like to camp on the Pacific is a lot of money.
Lately, we've been traveling by motorcycle - I'm spending as much at fuel stops with the bike as I used to with pickup truck and trailer.

Hi Chris. I don't think that would be the case for us. High travel insurance would stop us from travelling in the US, not Mexico or Costa Rica or Spain or Morocco etc. No for us it would be more about travelling when not in good health. Of course we'll have to see how we feel about it when that happens, one day at a time. There are many countries where it is better just to pay the bill as opposed to going with insurance. We are currently in Morocco and talking to some expats here and that is common although many go to spain for more serious conditions. Also common in spain to just pay the bill as a foreigner. I haven't looked into it much but I suspect also a viable alternative in Mexico. We will have to yack about it someday.

Thanks John. Canada has been good to us. Although everything is very expensive; gasoline, liquor, food. Don't know how people do it. The country is beautiful; Rockies, Kelowna, the regional and provincial parks as well as forest service sites. We will be back but via air in the future. Planning maybe a summer in Canada.
