Custer Battlefield park people give a good talk. Smile and nod your head. Then hire one of the Indian guides.
I'd take Hwy 81 from Wichita to Hwy 20 in Nebraska, then go west to hot springs and on up thru black hills- if you want to skip Black Hills, stay on 20 West into Wyoming. If you have extra time (and not a weekend), spend a day or two at Lewis &Clark lake on SD side west of Yankton (not Nebr side!). State park is best but COE is good too.
