Yellowstone Roads
I suffer from fear of heights and we drove into Yellowstone from Cody and out at Gardiner. By the time we got to the hotel I was a wreck. Can anyone tell me what the west entrance road is like.

US-20 does not go through Gardiner. US-89 goes North following the Yellowstone River Valley to I-90 near Livingston, MT. It is good road with no mountain driving.
Going west out of Gardiner on US HWY 20 is a piece of cake and none of that white knuckle cryin for mama stuff you just drove. Even turns into 4 lane down the road abit. - Coming back from Cody after the rodeo, at 12:15 AM we were surprised by a pair of elk, and the fact I was driving only about 40 MPH plus a super-fast twitch of the wheel, and we would have crashed. We stopped, but never saw them again.
- we went from the park to Cody. the drop off is on my right. you had it made with the cliff to your right and you had a section of the road between you and the drop off. yes once in a life time trip, my daughter was shaking by the time we got down to level ground again.
- NE entrance is beautiful, but not for you at 11k feet. I did it and it was a once in a lifetime drive!!!
- If you are still in Gardiner you have a lot of narrow, no edge, road and six miles of muddy no pavement construction between you and West Yellowstone.
- West is easy.
- South way has a spectacular view of a huge canyon and the road goes pretty close to it.
West is very tame compared to the others. - West Yellowstone is flat compared to the East Entrance. South is similar put there are some spots where the road hugs the cliff overlooking the river. Heading south you'll be on the inside, if you are the passenger.
