Check out Artist Point at the end of HWY 542, way up north by Mt Baker. Great hiking.

There are a number of NFCG along the way.

There are so many places to go. Most people like the Olympic Peninsula, San Juan Island, North Cascades Route 20, Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens, and the Columbia River Gorge.

Do not miss the East Side, I really like the Methow Valley, above Wenatchee, Blewett Pass, Chinook Pass and Lake Chelan.

There are no must dos. Just wander around and enjoy yourself. The weather on the OLy Peninsula and the West Side can be discouraging at times. Head for the East Side for more dependable weather. I really like the eastern slope of the Cascades.

Must do's while in Wa.
Deception pass
North cascades highway
Olympic Penn.
Mount St. Helens
Mount Rainier
a ferry ride.
Grand Cooley
San Juan Islands.

6 to 8 weeks, they have plenty time to see the whole state.
The only problems I see for them is fire restrictions, and full camp grounds.
Weather
east side will be hot, could see 120+ rain= 0% chance
West side may reach 85-90 rain maybe, 20% chance
Olympic Penn, It isn't known as a rain forest for nothing, As the joke goes, Forks will get a half inch of rain on a sunny day.

I would tour the Olympic Peninsula you have time to make a loop and see some beautiful country. Lots of camping spots, beautiful beaches , mountains and the only rain forest in the lower 48.

In that case, once you get out of the immediate Seattle area there are lots of camp grounds, both NFS State forest, and private. The west side of the state boon docking in remote areas is difficult to find. It is mostly tree farms and the roads are all gated.
And the ones that aren't, are not suited for a 30' 5Ver.
Most all the rest areas in I-5 have dump stations (they are marked)
August time frame it may be a bit crowded.

The state has what is known as a "discover pass" it is 30 bucks, but covers the entrance costs to all state parks. These all have a $10. fee per day. I'd suggest you get one.
Most all state parks are reservation required, and have an on line web page for this.
August, is a very dry month so be prepared for forest fires, and all that entails. 400,000 ac burned last year alone.
I'd second the trip around the Cascade loop, but with a trailer in tow, I'd do it west to east starting in Arlington Wa, Rockport, Marblemount, and over the pass. doing it the other way puts you down hill into some pretty sharp corners, the west side is one big long grade. and from the top is a great view that you miss going east. Do the pull out there is plenty room to turn the trailer around and take the little walk to the over look.

Head toward Leavenworth and on to Hwy 20 for a beautiful circle drive.
