A problem I never knew existed.

Just looked at the reviews on Rvparkreviews.com and discovered a problem I never knew existed. A park in Lyndon, Kansas got the lowest possible score and the first reason given was the park was built wrong because the RV doors face North. I wasn't sure, so I pulled out my trusty copy of the Constitution of the United States and I could find no clause or amendment requiring RV sites to be aligned on any directional axis. Have I missed something?

This is obviously a poster who got crossways with somebody and is taking it out with a negative review. That review is a good example of why an owner feedback ability would potentially be a good addition to rvparkreviews.com. My suggestion has always been for any owner feedback to be limited in a twitter-like fashion to keep it short and it should be moderated by RVparkreviews.com before it is posted to keep personal attacks to a minimum. But the park should have the ability to defend itself with a simple feedback like. "Unfortunately, the guest in question was unable to abide by XYZ rule and we had to ask them to leave." Or "Yes, some of our sites have the rig's doors facing north, in the winter that exposes them to wind and cold, but in our primary summer season you do not bake in the western sun, so that is actually a benefit."

Actually a campground operator stated a thread on this very subject over on that forum Campground

While it was not posted on RVparkreviews, I was in a park office once and a lady was loudly complaining because she had forgotten to pack underwear and the camp store didn't have any to sell her. Apparently underwear is not a commonly requested item at campground stores...who would have thought ๐Ÿ™‚

The girl at the desk was being very professional (how she kept from laughing, I'll never know!) and trying to help, but nothing would calm this women down. An offer was even made to give her a ride to a nearby Walmart to purchase the missing undergarments but she was not satisfied and demanded a refund.....the girl gave her the refund. I think I would have paid that women to leave!!!

She should've told her "We do carry women's underwear - but none that large."

There is in fact ONE place I require a Campsite to face a certian direction. And if it does not. I don't stay. At the beach. My main requirement is that the door, and awning side, face the ocean. Why, you ask?
Well I'll tell you. On the East coast, If you face the ocean, You get afternoon shade under the awning. You get sun if you face the other way. You also get the best ocean breeze, The sun come up, and wakes you as well. To us, that is a plus. To others maybe not. With the awning on the beach side, I can sit, and watch the nightly parades on Ocean Drive. I can also sit there and listen to the waves break on shore.

To y'all, those may not be good reasons to require a ocean facing site. But to us they are, and as it's my money I'm spending. I get what I want.

Now as to camping in the mountians. I really don't care which way it points.

Yes I Did, and I didn't find anything else other than complaints. If the guy doesn't like gravel sites, he is not going to like 3/4s or more of the parks in the US. Annoying owner? Probably going to happen if you complain that the doors to rigs don't face north. And if you are minding your own business and following the rules how often do you really encounter the owner at most parks? Lots of full time guests? The guy was in KANSAS in January, surely he didn't expect a lot of people out enjoying the cold, wind, snow and perfectly flat terrain, thinking it is ideal for skiing. If it wasn't for work, there is absolutely no reason for anyone to ever stay in Kansas in winter. Dirty restrooms is a no-no, but read the other reviews of the park and many mention the restrooms in a positive way.

Western,
It could be worse. (And pilots will back me up on this). There's a difference between True North and Magnetic North. True North never moves, but Magnetic North does move over time and can be as much as 5 degrees off of True North in either direction. Our planet actually "wobbles"!
If the poster expects you to align your campsites so the door faces Magnetic North, you'll have to realign all your sites every few years by a few degrees. And just think of giving driving directions to campers. You could give directions from Texas to Billings, Montana and they might wind up in Bozeman! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, I read it when it first came out. Out of the other reviews for that same park, there is one 6, 4 eights, and 4 nines. The others praised the gravel and the bathrooms. To each their own.

Didn`t even think about it. I did just read it and there seems to be more to the story.

Quote;
"Park is built wrong. Doors on campers face north, bathroom & laundry are not clean, gravel sites, website doesn't show what park looks like, and pictures are old. Park does need work, owner is annoying. Many long term camper and transit workers use this park. We camped here in a Motorhome."

I think with everything else, the reviewer threw in the doors facing the wrong way because they were upset with how the park was advertised! if it is all true, I can`t say that I blame them!

Although they have 2 previous reviews and both of those are not so good either, so I think these people may not be happy anywhere!

I have seen people complain about lack of hookups at primitive campgrounds. You have to read the reviews. I also like the positive comments paired with a 1 - someone just does not understand how to use the site.
