A Summerizibg Question

Can any of you folks who leave their rigs or own houses, park models, or mobile homes in the desert answer a question for me? I generally know about summerizing, but am wondering if I can leave fluids such as pesticides, bathroom/kitchen cleaners, cosmetics, etc, safely behind? When we arrived in Yuma in January this year, my wife discovered that her laundry detergent was okay, but the fabric softener had solidified.

Any advice?
  • Art....most spices are short lived, they lose potency fairly rapidly. Buy small quantities, or put 'em in air tight containers in the freezer, same with your dry goods. (assuming you leave your freezer on) We leave the AC set on 88-90 in our home, so things won't deteriorate as they would if there was no cooling.
There are watering services offered for winter visitors in the Foothills, look for signs or buy some timers, run some drip irrigation, or pay a neighbor to take care of the place...

  • We live in a ground set manufactured home in Phoenix. We put all our dry food stuffs in rubbermaid containers, wrap the container in a plastic bag and put them in the crawl space under the trailer. Everything was good this fall when we came back. We do the same with our paint, glue and any other liquids we think the heat might affect.

  • Well----I was hoping to get more help!

For example, what about dry foodstuffs, spices, etc?

Last summer, even our plastic water jugs disintegrated. Fortunately, they were sitting in pans--so no harm done.

By the way---for you folks in the Fortuna Foothills---what do you do about watering the plants in your yard? (A bit off topic from the original question, I guess.)
  • I leave such things behind as a matter of convenience. We're not talking big bucks to replace this stuff.
