Access to Caves from Cave Junction, OR

My family is staying in Cave Junction, OR and planning on seeing the caves tomorrow. One person told us that access was really tight with RVs and recommended we leave the 5r at camp. However, another person said that sometimes the wait time to go in could be hours, so it would be nice to have the RV to cool our jets in.

Can anybody comment on RV access to the caves at Cave Junction, OR?

Thanks!

Hey All,

So now that I've been there (without the RV), let me answer my own question:

NO WAY!! I've been pulling our 5r for 12 years and I am very comfortable on mountain/winding roads and this would have been very challenging; there are multiple switchbacks that are posted at 15 MPH and they are not kidding! I'm really not sure my 30' 5r would make one or two of these. But perhaps more importantly, there are several places where taller vehicles would take paint damage due to low branches and other poor clearance issues. And once you got there, the lot is pretty small and there isn't any designated RV parking.

So my advice to anyone who finds this posting through future searches is, if your rig is longer than 25' and/or taller than maybe 10', I * STRONGLY* discourage taking an RV up this road.

Seriously, just don't.

Yea, I was going to say what all the others said - there's very little area to park an RV once you're up at the Monument, and LOTS of folks walking around (no sidewalks, so people use the road to walk on), full parking lots, etc.

That's exactly what I needed to know - we'll leave the 5r at camp and just take the truck.

Thanks!

I think you would be very sorry to take your 5ver up there. Road is narrow plus parking lot is not that big. Also....ya just might take up a lot of room at the parking lot which stops a lot of other cars from parking there.
