Take a day trip into Algodones if you have never been. We went last week and I got 3 bifocal glasses with plastic lens and my wife got bifocal reading glasses for a total of $420. The total time from start to finish was 3 hours. Avoid the Paraiso restaurant in the courtyard--it never was very good for Mexican food but has gotten noticeably worse in the past several years. Many eat there because it's safe, with live music, English speaking waiters, etc...but the food is marginal at best. Since we snowbird in AZ, Yuma is very convenient for us but we only go when we need glasses, liquor, meds or dental work.
You should park in the large parking lot on the U.S. side of the border for $8 (Class C) and walk across. There is only one parking lot (unlike Nogales) so you can't miss it. Just remember where you park.
