Anybody want to spend Christmas at Long Key SP?

After dragging my ass out of bed early for a couple weeks in January I finally snagged a nice site at Long Key SP from 12/19-1/2. Fast forward a few months later and I'm expecting my second child on Nov 22nd so we will not be able to go. It is site 30. I also have site 6 at Sebastian Inlet SP from 12/24-12/26 that I will have to cancel as well. This was going to be our stopover point and visit some family in Port St. Lucie for Christmas before heading down to the Keys. I'm just kind of tossing this out as a heads up in case anyone was interested. I will cancel sometime this weekend.

I wish there were an actual separate forum we could use when cancelling reservations like the OP's. I'd subscribe to that - which would be a first for me.

It would encourage people to offer them here first, to our fellow RV.net-users, as the OP graciously did.

Unfortunately, right now cancellations get scattered all over the place (forum-wise) and if they're in ATC they don't show up unless you go there.

For those saying go anyway believe me it was heavily weighed and we were about ready to go for it but on the advise of my wife's OB we decided to cancel.

Normally, I would say your wife's OB is just covering his/her butt. However, Ohio to the Florida Keys is a long drive, too long for a newborn to be in a car seat. Unless you were to stop for a few hours every 3 - 4 hours to let the baby stretch out, I think it is a wise choice.

maybe the OP was just going to leave their site, come back later.....give the OP a break thinking they are 'just booking' and cancelling. I am sure they aren't. And their baby time is theirs and they will do what they want, they want to cancel and are offering up their sites!

many book their main spot and leave it if needed for a few days then return.
geez ya'll---the OP is offering up great sites, just respect that post and reply to that and leave the usual RV bashing junk out of it and pulling ****pola out of the air and making this thread more than what the OP offered.

honestly.......

Just curious...IF you REALLY planned on spending 12/19 to 1/2 at LONG KEY SP how would you spend 12/24 to 12/26 at Sebastian Inlet SP. Or do y'all book everything up front then cancel as the wind changes..:h:h

Thanks, just trying to understand...Dennis

Places like LKSP (oceanfront E/W for $38.50/night) are EXTREMELY hard to book during snowbird season. They're booked 11 months out, the minute they become available.

When you DO get one, you book for the entire 2 weeks allowed. You just do. (If you have two weeks off work to be there).

It's alot easier to cancel or pass along to someone else a few days in the middle than, say, book 5 days, leave for the next three (24th through 26th) and then HOPE you can get a second reservation again on the 27th.

Sites like those at LKSP don't go unrented. They're just too much in demand.

What he said.... I reserved the two weeks at LKSP to cover the days I actually wanted which were 12/26-1/2. I got the Sebastian Inlet site to visit some family in Port St. Lucie and spend Christmas Day with them before packing up and hitting the Keys on the 26th. As the poster above mentioned I would go back and cancel the 19th-25th. It's just how the game is played on Reserve America.... I'm not a big fan of it but you have to do it if you want to stay anywhere in the Keys. For those saying go anyway believe me it was heavily weighed and we were about ready to go for it but on the advise of my wife's OB we decided to cancel. Rest assured I will be dragging my butt out of bed again in Jan '16 to get a site for next year.

Yes, I think you should go anyway. That way next January some guy can come on here and complain how the guy next to him brought a newborn camping with him that cried day and night and spoiled his holiday vacation he planned a year in advance for.

12 years ago I had made reservations for a week at Disney World one year in Advance. Then along came my Daughter 2 Weeks before the trip. We still went and had a great time, even with a 2 week old.

I guess I don't understand why you can't go.
Babies that age don't really care where they eat and sleep.

Yup, that's why I didn't / couldn't jump at the chance at the LKSP site 🙂

Congrats on your new baby.

Your site at Long Key looks awesome.

Sorry you won't be going. Thanks for giving people here a heads up about your cancellation.
