Info for the future.
We attended the US Nationals Drag Race last week and dry camped in the Lucas Oil Raceway camping area. This is a grassy, 300 acre pasture with some shade on the perimeter in the NE corner of Raceway property. You enter the camping area through the Main Gate off Hwy 36. A flat fee of $125 (1st come) will allow you to camp Tuesday to Tuesday or any nights between those days. Racing starts Wednesday and all final eliminations are Monday (usually Labor Day). There is one gravel road that splits the grounds in half, but no other hard, load bearing surfaces, just mowed grass. Raceway security stays at the gate 24/7 and local law enforcement cruise through out the grounds. Out houses and security lights are the only facilities, but rumor is a honey wagon and drinking water can be contacted. I'm guessing there was 25% occupancy...lots of open area. The security will shuttle you the 3/4+mile to the ticket office when it's convenient. The neighbors were civilized, not much partying, very informal track staff and the track noise is 3/4-1 mile away. The grounds are 400 yards from the very end of the shut-off area.
