Arizona winter stay campgrounds

We are considering to winter 3 months in AZ. Any suggestions on towns/cities and campgrounds. We were looking at Phoenix area and Lake Havasu City. Phoenix offers a lot to see and do, but not knowing which area (city) to locate in. Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We like Fortuna de Oro CG in northern Yuma. A fabulous RV park with all the amenities. Excellent Pickleball. Good weather, good restaurants, good shopping (although I'm not a shopper) but it is all there in Yuma. We go down there after Quartzsite. Betsy

There are no RV parks in Tempe or Scottsdale that I have ever heard of. Try Mesa.

In southern AZ we love Tombstone Territories RV park. Very quiet park away from any city. Lots of fun things to see and do in the area. Tombstone and Bisbee are a short drive away. Ghost town of Fairbanks is just down the highway. Numerous wineries for a day of wine tasting is nearby in Sonoita or Wilcox. Kartchner Caverns is an incredible cave to tour about 30 miles away. For shopping needs Sierra Vista is close by and has most major stores.

Make reservations for at least Jan and Feb early. Most parks are filled unless you want to stay just a few days, maybe a week.

Thanks for the current replies. We have been FL Snowbirds past 15 years and decided to see the west, AZ and perhaps Vegas area. We have stayed 1 yr in TX, but that is not our cup of tea! Our thoughts are to move around and see what is in the lower half of AZ which offers much better weather conditions. The outskirts of Phoenix (Tempe area perhaps or Scottsdale) was a thought for the month of March as we head eastward. We enjoy sightseeing new places and AZ certainly offers that! Just deciding areas and resorts/campground is another decision to think about. We would like to see the Old London Bridge in LHC and perhaps venture to or from Vegas. Looking forward to hearing more from fellow RVers!

Other places to consider are Texas, along the gulf coast, New Mexico where its not quite as warm as Arizona but often considered a well kept secret. If you guys are urban folks and love restaurants and theaters, Phoenix is probably a good bet. If you like the ocean, look around Rockport or South Padre Island. And if you like the out of doors and not interested in wall to wall RV parks, look at Las Cruses or Alamogordo

If you are a motorsports person, Lake Havasu is the place to be. There are several car clubs, motorcycle clubs, boating groups and off-road clubs. We like the low key small town atmosphere, but if you aren't a motorsports person there may not be enough to hold your interest all winter.

There are several good restaurants on or near the channel and and a few golf courses nearby too. Laughlin, NV is an hour away and has big name entertainment at the casinos quite often.

Not knowing your interests, I would visit your mentioned locations and decide for yourself.

Questions you need to ask yourself:
Do you want to spend all 3 months in one place, and take day trips to see as much of the area as you can? Or spend a week or two in one place, then move on to the next?
Do you want a resort with regularly scheduled activities designed for snowbirds? There are plenty of those places, and they tend to be large with a lot of people around. Or would rather have smaller parks with more solitude, but few planned activities?
Once you have decided those things, you can start looking for places to stay.

We live in rural area. Visiting Phoenix and Tucson is okay, but I like the smaller towns for a longer stay. It takes an hour to drive across Tucson now. It has become urbanized. Phoenix is way too big. Yuma is the haven of people over 80.

There are lots of choices in Phoenix area as well as Yuma and Tucson. We like Tucson better as not the big city traffic in Phoenix. Have stayed for shorter periods of time in all those places and many are very nice. Suggest just go to one and while there explore and even move to other parks and decide for your self which parks best suits your needs/ desire. Other residents and park policies may make one stand out over another rather than just the physical park itself.
