Basswood RV Resort, Platte City, MO - definitely a PICK

Courteous service from the person who answered our phone call inquiring if a parking spot by the lakes was available. She efficiently obtained from me the size of our rig, that we were towing a car, the year, make and model of our rig (I'll explain why that is important in a moment). She then checked our proposed arrival and departure date/times and unfortunately could not fit us into a site facing the lakes. She explained that the sites on the first row facing the lake were too short for our rig. (36'). I told her that their website pictured rigs like mine on that first row and asked her to double check. She gladly did and returned to me to explain that our rig would stick out three feet into the roadway passing either in front or behind our rig.

Okay. That's a factual answer I can understand.

She immediately suggested the next closest row, the end spot which was five dollars a night higher because it was concrete like the premium pads on the other end of the RV Park. Being the end site we'd have plenty of room. I looked at the map online and confirmed what she was saying and made my reservation.

When we arrived Friday late afternoon I was intimidated by how steep the driveway was. But I manually shifted the Allison down to 1st and the Cummins TurboDiesel powered up the drive without a problem. And it was a gradual transition so we didn't drag our tow hitch or Toad. I am confident that is why she wanted to know all about our rig so that she could warn us off if we would be unable to navigate the parks hills and valleys.

Guest registration parking was well marked. At the check-in counter we were warmly greeted. Our parking spot was confirmed and the amenities of the park were explained. I was offered an escort but since we could see the parking spot from the main office check-in counter I passed on that service.

I wondered if our "new to us" used diesel pusher would be able to power up the hills, and equally important, stop going down the valleys. But it had no problems at all and the paved roads, trimmed back foliage, wide curves and corners, and well marked parking spots made finding our site and parking easy. We chose 50 amp service from the power box although 30 amp was available at our site as well. The hook ups for the sewer, water and cable TV were all in good repair. The water pressure was 60 lbs just like we like it.

The main office has a general store that had the Ranch Dressing we had forgotten to pack as well as a wide selection of other items. After our evening walk we returned to the store to get some ice cream. The pizza kitchen provides take out or delivery within the park until 8 p.m.

Each time one of the staff in a red T-Shirt saw me they asked if there was anything that I needed and if I was enjoying our stay. As I walked to the dumpsters with a bag of trash a golf cart whizzed up next to me and the staffer said "Let me take that for you."

All the staff are mature adults. I'm sure it is some sort of work in trade for park rental. But each one was courteous, and intent on making sure I was a happy camper.

We would highly recommend Basswood RV Resort to anyone wanting to stay in the Kansas City area.
