We will be in wine country this June and are looking for a top rated park. We will be having guest fly in for the week and want a park that is top notch. I've checked all my usual resources and have found nothing special. Help!

I don't know if I'd call any of the RV parks in the Napa/Sonoma area "top notch." We've stayed at Petaluma KOA many times and enjoyed it. It's always been clean, well kept and the staff are very nice. I wouldn't call the sites big, especially the pull-thrus, but I think it's a great place to stay. If you choose to stay there and don't have kids ask that you not be placed near the playground. There's an area where a lot of the full-timers stay, rows B, C, D, E and F. The sites are among a grove of trees and are completely shaded, which is nice in the summer. (I've never noticed families with kids in this area, so it's probably preferable if you don't have them.)

Site Map

We've driven by Napa Expo as my in-laws live in Napa, but have never stayed there, our preference is the Petaluma KOA.

Anyway my thoughts for the OP are there aren't any high end parks around the area you're looking.

Yep, no Felton in Sonoma or Napa County. just SC County.

and you're correct that there are no "high end" parks anywhere near here.
i only suggested Napa Valley Expo because of its location, near the river, the Oxbow and the Wine Train, along with the downtown area.
and it's an easy drive to Sonoma Valley. and it's the closest thing to a high end RV park in either Napa or Sonoma Valley. notice i didn't say County.

Im sorry I thought the OP was looking for a High End Rv park and the 2 you referanced are just glorified parking lots.

the best park in Napa Valley is at the Napa Valley Expo. they have recently upgraded a lot of the park and it's very close to downtown Napa. it's about 20 minutes to downtown Sonoma.
Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga, has a RV park but it's not much to speak of but Calistoga is a very cool town.

there is no RV park in Sonoma Valley that i know of, other than mobile home parks.

there is Wine Country RV Park in Rohnert Park that gets a lot of recommendations but it's about 20-30 minutes from Sonoma Valley and longer to Napa Valley.

Petaluma KOA is great, if you have kids, IMHO. it's about the same distance to Sonoma and Napa Valley as Wine Country RV Park.

if you need any more info about the area or good wineries to visit, send me a PM. the DW works in the Wine Industry.

Petaluma KOA is a wonderful lovely park, a real gem of a KOA. Paved roads, large shade trees, activities for the family, good base camp location for San Francisco.
That makes it a bit of a drive to Napa. We recently stayed at the Vineyard RV Park in Vacaville. I would and will stay there again when we visit friends in the are. It is gravel and dirt, shaded, quiet, very friendly, but rather rustic (nice word for older but pleasant). There is a newer section that was just being opened when we were there with fully paved roads, rocky gravel pads, lovely with less shade. The staff was pleasant, and I really have nothing negative to add. Just not a Resort. Very near UC Davis, and much closer to Napa, making it a good basecamp. Good Restraunts an Shopping about a mile away at NutTree.
Happy Trails
