Boondocking Central Texas

Howdy, friends. We have camped in several of the beautiful Texas state parks.

Now we are interested in venturing out into more secluded and quiet destinations.

Anyone have recommendations for central Texas area?

Many thanks,
Dave
  • Thanks, Roy. Sounds beautiful.

By the way, I am focusing my search for boondocking opportunities in and around Texas hill country (Austin and radius of about 100 miles).

Don't rule out Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Medicine Park OK just a few miles North of Lawton OK on I44. They have both Electric and None Electric sites at the DORIS CAMPGROUND. Lots of wildlife to see there including Buffalo and Deer... Worth the short drive North.

Almost all of the Lakes have camp grounds... PK was a great place. Dennison TX and Lake Texahoma Lake has several campgrounds.. Even camped a few times at Lake Bonham State Park visiting family graves at Gober, TX. They have a bunch of hugh WHITE DUCKS there that are panhandling for food hehe...

The camp grounds at Lake Arrowhead near Wichita Falls are good too...

Most of the North Texas Lakes are really low suffering from a multi-year drought however...
