Boondocking Sites in Colorado Rockies

Despite those who say there is no free camping in Colorado anymore, there are a number of FREE or inexpensive camping areas that are conveniently located in some of the most popular tourist areas of the state. Although most out-of-state RVers will use I-70 to get to the Western Slope, Colorado RVers know that some of the most scenic parts of the state are along the U.S. highways in the mountains. For this reason, my new blog concentrates on the mountain sections of US 285, US 24, US 40, US 50/550, and US 160.

So, if you are planning a boondocking-dry camping trip to Colorado during the remainder of this summer or for aspen-viewing this fall, take a look at my "Free Campsites in the Colorado Mountains" blog HERE. Along with campsites, I include some not-to-be-missed sights along these routes and potable water and RV dump sites as well.

So, come to cool, colorful Colorado this year and save a few bucks on campsites!
  • I'm a mile high also and thank you for some great information on spots I have missed.
  • Thanks. I've added that bookmark to the folder for my next Colorado trip.
  • Thanks I book marked it for next time we are up that way, doing Wyoming next month, so maybe next summer we will do Colorado again.
  • Thanks for this blog. We leave next month for Colorado. We'll be staying on the eastern side of the Rockies this trip, and while we won't be doing any boondocking this trip, there is still a lot a good info in this for us.
  • Nice job on the blog!

FYI on the Cottonwood Pass thing. Someone I know was in contact with those in charge and expectations are that Cottonwood Pass will be closed all of the 2018 season too. I know this is only a minor deviation of what you mention as you indicated most of 2018 season.
