Bourbon Trail -- Lexington / Frankfort Ky Area

We are planning a 4 night trip to Kentucky to do the Bourbon Trail and visit some of the horse farms in the area. Anybody have any recommendations for an RV park with FHU sites? We've looked at several online, but would appreciate any insight from actual visitors.

Elkhorn Campground is just outside of Frankfort if that puts you closer to where you want to be.

After reading this thread, I now want to plan a trip that includes the Bourbon Trail. We had talked about going to Mammoth Cave so I think we could combine caves & bourbon!

K.H.P.,Great place, but, if you use the public showers(,last time I used them,to save tank capacity)...The showers are ONE TEMP..........VERY WARM....,nice in spring...fall....not so nice Summer.....!Hot...!!!!!!!!!!

We have done the bourbon trail several times. Most times we stayed at Kentucky Horse park. Great place to stay.Even though they do not have sewer hookups they do have multiple dump sites. Our next trip to the trail will entail staying a couple of nights at KHP and a couple at Louisville/Bardstown area. Doing the trail from KHP involves about 400 miles. Even though Buffalo Trace in Frankfort is mo longer on the trail, it is worth the trip. Their bourbon cream liquor is fantastic. With orange soda it is like a creamsicle and with root beer it is laike a fantastic rootbeer float. The bourbon cream is only sold at the distillery and very few selected outlets in the area. If you go to Makers Mark the roads are very narrow and not really RV friendly.

We really liked the Ky Horse Park, but haven't stayed in a few years. I would definitely recommend it even though it doesn't have sewer.

We stayed outside of Louisville this year and stayed at the KOA Metro North. It had clean bathhouses. the workers were great and it was convenient, but definitely NOT a destination campground.

We did the bourbon trail this past October...but we were coming up from the Smokies on our way...we hit Lexington on our way in as our first stop and did Town Branch and Barrel House both in Lexington...

However our plan had us traveling more west out of Lexington to Bardstown where we set up our base camp.

DO NOT STAY at White Acres...see AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE

We ended up at Little Patch of Heaven right on the edge of Bardstown...this place is nothing spectacular...but it is a good clean place...they have full hookups on many sites but you will need to specifically ask for that...

They have some sites that face the lake and if you have a Class-A you can pull straight in and have a beautiful view...however I don't believe those sites have sewer...

We stayed there in our 40' pusher and had no issues...

On our way into Bardstown we hit Heaven Hill

From this base camp we were able to visit all the distilleries over 2 days.

First day we drove back towards Lawrenceburg for Four Roses, Woodford and Wild Turkey. Day 2 we did Jim Beam, Willett and Makers Mark. While down near Makers Mark we went into Lebanon and did Limestone Branch (another Craft Distiller).

We weren't near Frankfort...and next time we will stay up that way I think to be able to do Buffalo Trace...

My only point...AVOID WHITE ACRES if you are staying down in Historic Bardstown...but Bardstown is a COOL town in itself too!!!

Good luck...we had a BLAST once we got past the White Acres issues...

Kentucky Horse Park is a wonderful place. However, they do not offer sewage hookups. We have stayed there several times thru the years because we love the horse park.
