Hi
We are new to 5th wheel rving into the USA.
Looking for some good campgrounds around the San Fransisco area.
We are 2 seniors so not looking for family oriented sites.
Thinking Dec. and Jan. Nice to be near water. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Joe

Half Moon Bay State park is nice, about a 30 minute drive into the city. Also there is a nice KOA north of San Fran in Petaluma.

How long will you be here? What do you want to do? Do you just want to be near the City of SF, or looking for other areas too? We are near Santa Cruz, it's pretty chill here and lots of great hiking, beach walks, etc. The further north you go from So Cal the more rain you get. Seacliff is great...but sometimes you get kicked out because of the high tides/waves at that time of the year, but you can still stay in the upper parking lot. Pismo is great that time of the year too. When it rainy here, it's not always rainy there. Some 70 degree days there during that time frame is possible.

there are only 4 private and public parks in Napa Valley and the state park, Bothe-Napa Valley is too small for 5th wheels.

along with Skyline, there's the Napa County Fairgrounds and Napa Valley Expo.
Skyline is rurally located and next to vineyards and hiking trails.
County Fairgrounds is in Calistoga, a very cool and funky town.
Napa Valley Expo is close to downtown Napa, the river and Wine Train.

My neighbor takes his motorhome over to Sea cliff state park all the time. It's his favorite. I've never been there though. It's in the Santa Cruz area and the spots over look the ocean. You have to reserve 6 months in advance if you want multiple days and they do book up fast.

We stay here:

Short drive to the BART station and take the tram into the city with the locals.
Then bus or cable car will take you to the rest.

One of our favorites is Doran Regional Park. It's a Sonoma county campground. The park is situated on a large swath of land between Bodega Bay/Harbor. It's easy to get to from Petaluma off Hwy1. The bay and harbor are beautiful with a view of the Tides wharf, where the Hitchcock movie The Birds was filmed. There is a large, long beach area for walking, relaxing, fishing and easy drive to Bodega Head for whale watching. There is water but no electric or sewer. There is a dump station in the park. It's a popular park so reservations are recommended but they do have first come first served. It's also a great place for birders. The white pelicans are huge and beautiful and fun to watch as they work in tandem to catch fish.
Dec and Jan are great months. We spend every other Christmas there. The weather can be warm and sunny or windy and rain. We love both. You can usually have your pick of campsites in December.
