Campground Recommendation (Help)

Hello all. This is our first post and hope someone might have some thoughts or recommendations for us.

We're located in Western Canada and recently purchased a beautiful, 2000 43' foot Holiday Rambler motorhome. Until such time as we officially retire and spend our winters in the southwestern US, we are considering the option of driving the coach down south (somewhere to be determined), leaving it there and then flying down a few times during the winter for a few weeks at a time. Our thought is we either find a nice campground (not super expensive) and leave it in a site and pay the rates for the whole winter, or move it to and from a nearby storage facility for the times we come down.

Any information or advice Good Sam members might have would be greatly appreciated.

Check with your insurance first. In Ontario, many RV insurers will not provide insurance if the RV is out of Ontario for more that 6 months at a time.

We ran into this a couple of years ago when we were doing a trip to Colorado, Utah etc. in September/October. We wanted to leave the RV someplace safe,fly home and return after Christmas to spend a few more months snowbirding before returning home in late March. Trailers and Fifth wheels are not affected by this ruling - only motorized vehicles.

So, check on this and see how it applies to your plans.

On the east coast many campgrounds will store it and some even move a TT to and from storage and have it on a site when you arrive. Check where you want to go and see if they have storage.

In the Blythe/Quartsite area I notice many rv's are left on site year round.

Find a church in the area you are wanting to leave your unit. If they don't have a place maybe one of their congregation will have a place for you. Tell them you will give the church a good donation. I've done it and felt better leaving it there than other sites.

I have done this twice on the west coast - leaving it on a site will be expensive
I left mine at a RV dealer in Kent Washington and it was not horribly expensive
If you look in a smaller town the price goes down say Tacoma Washington
