Camping Suggestion About 4 Hours From NYC?

We live on Long Island and have had a camper for about 3 years now. We've only camped on Long Island in that time span but have just finished up a week at Lake George RV Park and it was great. We are already planning to start looking for our big trip for next summer and are looking for suggestions.

1) campground should be less than 4 hours from NYC.
2) campsite should have water, electric and sewer sites
3) must allow dogs

The trip will be in July of 2015 with two 28' trailers. It will consist of my parents who are mid to late 60's. My brother and sister in law in early 40's and their two boys aged 7 and 5. It will also be myself age 35.

We've briefly looked at strawberry park and odetah online. Any other suggestions maybe west or south of NYC?

We live just a few miles from Cape Cod Campresort and decided to give it a try for a short trip this month. Just a short review for anyone looking at the park for a destination.

Cons

* It's expensive. $71 a day + $6 for the furry one. This was for a "standard" site. The premium sites are all closer to the beach on the pond. Full hookup, 30 amp. Visitors $16/day.

* They advertise wifi, but I never got a signal. Sprint hotspot had a good signal.

* Only 11 analog channels on the cable.

* Lots of up and downs on the roads. Watched a big fiver bottom out on a speedbump.

* Sites are close together.

Pros

* Sites are level are well maintained.

* Dog park is clean and segregates by size.

* Lots of shade and not many bugs.

* Kid friendly (may be a con ;-))

There are some nice ocean beaches nearby, but you'll need a toad.
Camp store fairly well stocked.
I don't do pools (see CrabbyPatty's post) but it looked clean.

We live on the east end of LI we have gone to Cape Cod Camping Resort. It has flu plus pool lake and near many places to see as well as ocean. Also north is Boston Minuteman campground. About 30 minutes west of Boston. Very friendly very clean lots to do in vicinity. I haven't been but Normandy Farms in Foxboro mass is also very highly rated. We did go the Lake George Camping Resort and had a blast. West into Pa Drummerboy CG in Gettysburg is also a nice park with things to do all around. Tours etc.

I'll subscribe to this as this is of interest to me. We will be off to Maine and that starts about 3 hrs north of the ferry. For us it's just not worth the hassle of trying to drive around. Starting in New London it's like I haven't even driven. We were in Bar Harbor oceanfront cg in 5 hrs north of New London. Easy ride lots to see and lobster to eat along the way!

Seashore Campsites in Cape May is great. Lots to do and see. Nice pool. I would also consider southern Vermont. We liked Brattleboro KOA. Great area. Maybe 5 hours though.

It all depends on what you like. We are also on Long Island. We go to Lancaster, PA with the RV frequently. It is four hours away and there are a number of campgrounds that are very nice. If you plan on going on a holiday weekend in this area you need reservations long in advance, especially July Fourth.

Cherrystone is great but it's a 9 hour pull from eastern Long Island. 7 hours south from NYC. This is one of our fav cg's. Toms Cove is an hour less is also very nice as well.

Otter Lake in PA is nice as well as Strawberry Park in CT, Normandy Farms in MA, Twin Grove in PA, Ocean View in NJ. I've never been there but I hear Aces High in CT is nice as well.

Did you get a picture with Toasty?! We just got back from LGRVP last night; went up for a few days.

We went to Strawberry Park a couple of times years ago when the kids were young. It's a nice park if you're looking to keep the kids busy. Keep in mind though, that you have been spoiled now at LGRVP.

LOL, no pictures with Toasty but I did buy a mini toasty figure for each camper. Where were you staying? We were in the 400's.

You may want to check out Cherryhillpark.com

That is if you would like to tour Washington DC.

The rv park offers a dog walking service and the campground is "dog" friendly. Use the Metro System, less than a mile away and leave your car parked. You can take the metro to the mall, giving you access to all the monuments and museums.

As for the campground itself, it is outstanding. The staff working the front desk can help you with ticket purchases for bus tours and give you directions to some of the local sights.

Have fun.

I know it's farther than you would like but point sebago rv resort in casco maine is tops in my book. Just got back after a week trip with 4 family's. Lake front with full service marina, 18 golf coures, golf cart rentals {a must}, planned activities for the kids, adult entertainment. NO POOL but who cares. The lake is beautiful. Takes about 6 hrs from southern putnam county. Very easy drive.

You have definately been spoiled after a week at Lake George RV Park.

With boys 7 and 5, a trip to Frontiertown in Ocean City, Maryland is in order. It's a busy place, go go go, but plenty to do and lots to see.

It's about 4 hours from NYC, maybe a little bit more, but worth the drive.
