Cedar Lake Quachita National Forest

The Shady Lane campground portion of the Cedar Lake recreational area at the Quachita National Forest in Oklahoma is open although recreation.gov states it is closed due to flooding - which happened about 2 years ago. It reopened around Memorial Day and half of the sites are now open on a first come first serve basis including the full hook up sites which can be rented at $15.00 a night and $12.00 with golden access. the sites that were flooded were permanently closed. We were there for a month and this beautiful campground was empty with only a few locals. Sandy Beach campground at Cedar Lake never closed down.

If you are looking for a remote and beautiful campground( and empty) in the Quachita Mountains of Oklahoma and only a few miles from the Talimena Drive, check it out - it is not as well kept as it use to be, probably government cuts but it is still acceptable and I do not want to see it closed down again.
  • Don't tell everyone about it.....actually really nice...has horse camping seperate up on the hill...been there several times, never disappointed.
  • Hey Jon, Hope your staying dry down in Pineville, looks like it go pretty flooded down there, (I live south of Joplin)
