Cell phone reception database?

Greetings from Denver!

One of the criteria we use in selecting a park is whether or not there is cell phone coverage. I'm retired, but my wife still works and it's much easier for her if she can use her phone for calls and to create a WiFi hotspot for us.

I thought there might be a database somewhere that listed cell availability for National and State Parks at least, but I can't find anything at all.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Technomadia has produced a cellphone coverage iPhone/Pad/Pod app called, of all things, "Coverage?". You might find it useful if you have an i-Device

You could try this.

It is only as helpful as what people have submitted info for, but if it is helpful remember to help out and submit info back to it.

The trouble with creating such a database is the information accuracy. sure, the ranger can tell you that cell service is great. But then you might get the one site where it isn't so great. For example, I've had this experience within Point Beach State Forest in WI. Great service all over the park except for a few sites, and even then it depends on where in the site you are trying to use the phone.

It's gotten to the point, we don't check anymore (2 phones - one verizon and one AT&T)

It used to be we would check the maps and those were pretty good. AT&T in particular showed the level of coverage and it usually matched the number of bars very well.

I have friends over from time to time and they say there is no Verizon service at our house but Verizon's map says they have coverage here. We live on a hill and only get at most 1 bar with AT&T. So much for their coverage map. The phone still works that hangs on the kitchen wall, for now.

I often check with the Verizon coverage map - you can put in the cg address. I don't know if other providers have a similar feature. I also ask the cg staff at the time of making a reservation. I find in some national/state parks there is sporadic coverage, but often not everywhere.
