Central Indiana to Boston late summer or early fall

Honestly don't know if this should be here or in Roads and Routes...

Both of our adult children are in the Boston area, and we've made the drive several times in the car.

We generally go 70 to Columbus, 71 to Cleveland and then 90 to Boston. Probably be leaving the 5th wheel at Littleton

We generally take an extra day or two on one or both ends of the trip to do something along the way. We've done Rochester and Letchworth State Park, Buffalo and the falls, dropped down into the Finger Lakes region and a few other things I can't think of off the top of my head.

We are getting ready to make another trip in the car, but maybe more with the intention of scouting for an RV trip in the future. By this time next year, my wife and I plan to be retired so our return date and on-the-fly rescheduling flexibility should be much better.

Trying to get ideas for both overnight stops and detours for interesting things. Thinking maybe a stop somewhere between Columbus (4.5 hours from home) and Cleveland (6.5 hours from home) for the first night and somewhere around Syracuse for the second night.

Not opposed to the Pennsylvania route if there are things to see and do. We've even done Morgantown down and via Lexington, Ky where I have family. With good fortune we may make this trip or make it part of a trip many times so variety is good.

We generally make the trip in the late summer or early fall, and it seems a lot of places further north shut down in mid-October so we'll have to keep that in mind as well.

Watkin's Glen is a neat place to stop (for a night or two) and walk the gorge in the state park. This would probably be best if taking I-86 to I-88. (Maybe that's something you've already done in the category of of the finger lakes.) The glass museum in Corning is also well worth a few hours to visit; it's rather more interesting than it may sound like it ought to be.

If you time things correctly, seeing some (or all) of the Little League World Series is a lot of fun if you're into baseball. Camping and RV parking is not always the easiest to come by in the area during that time, though there are some area residents that offer dry camping in their back yards or other land, some fairly close to the fields. The games themselves are free to watch. It's generally mid-August when the world series happens.
