Charlotte NC area campgrounds

My wife wants to attend a quilt show in Charlotte NC at the end of July. What would be a good campground for us to stay in so she can go and I can hang around and not go!:) I know I can do a google search and get a listing but it also helps to have some first hand knowledge from those who know about them.

Thanks in advance.

New park in Fort Mill, SC
I have never been there but stumbled across this park recently. Looks like it is convenient to Charlotte and will definitely be on my list to go to when going back down that way.

Not a new park as you can see on their logo that it was established 1981. With that said, their website has nothing on it about the park. It's on he localtions of the former PTL club. I would look at the reviews on rvparkreviews.com. What I find funny is how the majority rate it a 2 or 3, but there is an 8 and a 10. I would have to go with majority rules.

My bad that I did not see it was established in 1981 but I have failed to come up with anything on RVparkreviews.com???? I even did a search for it and it did not find it.

It's there on RV Park Reviews under Fort Mill.

Coming back from Hilton Head yesterday, I didn't even recall seeing a camping sign on the highway for it. Saw the KOA one at Fort Mill, but that was it.

We stayed at Yates (http://yatesfamilycamping.com/) while attending a ice hockey tournament last year and it was a good experience. It's on a hill within sight of Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's operated by a nice family that live on site. It's close to the bypass and it was very easy to get to south Charlotte from that location.

We stayed one night last June at McDowell Nature Preserve campground on the SE side of Charlotte metro. I don't remember much about it, fairly easy to get to, large enough for our 30' FW,clean bath/restroom. I think it is run by the county of Mecklenburg.

We drove through McDowell a couple months ago as it had bean years since we last did not very many water/electric sites and all of them appeared to be unlevel. Also to note, they lock the gate at night (sunset).

We like McDowell County Preserve for short stays and I think they still give you the gate code to come/go as you want at night

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. We decided (for now) on the KOA at Ft.Mill. I will be taking her to the airport two weeks ahead of our stay and plan to check out several including the KOA while I am in the area to see if I want to change.

Never heard of field ridge acres. Not in the best area of town, but from the pictures it looks like a halfway decent place for a few days. They do have fhu with cable and for only $30. Pretty good. I would go with mores adventures on this one. I will have to check it out next time I go on that side of town.

Ft mill KOA will be the closest with fhu for you. Otherwise you will be driving 20 miles and more. Ft mill KOA is not too far away from airport either.

If you want easy access to the convention center and airport, then the closest to both is Fieldridge Acres (www.fieldridgeacres.com).

Weve stayed there a few times. .. not best on amenities, but a nice place to stay for a few days while in town.

If you are just looking for a spot - not lots of amenities - check out Ver-el campground near the speedway. Basic services and not expensive - so long as no races or speedway activities.

Kings mtn is nice, and not a bad drive. Where is the show located? Lake Norman is a nice place to visit, largest on the east coast I believe. Check Cross Country Campground in Denver NC off of hwy 150. It is a 45 min ride to downtown on 90% 4 lane roads. The campground offers nice area and putt putt golf and a nice general store and laundry all within walking/golf cart ride. Also, it pits you about 15 min from Mooresville which has most of your NASCAR teams and museums.

I would not suggest Lake Norman Campground across from Lineberger Restaurant, also on hwy 150. It is more of a parking lot.

Must have hit the submit button when you did. Show is at the convention center. Thanks
