COE campgrounds in central Texas

Proctor Lake, near Dublin, TX
Sowell Creek Campground
Copperas Creek Campground.
Both nice, but we like Sowell Creek best.
Bass fishing and crappie and catfish.

Also:
Potters Creek Campground/ Canyon Lake.

I second Protor Lake, because it's got water in it. Alot of other Texas lakes are way down in the lake levels. The further west you go the emptier the lake are.

Lake Texoma should be a great spot for you. I think I heard the Lake is not being affected too bad for the on-going drought there... The Lakes around Wichita Falls are all but dried up... People are Walking way out into the lake bed now...

I just heard the North Texas and West Texas has just started FRACKING for oil now. They probably already killed their underground water sources now.

I an not sure what exactly is central Texas but here are two suggestions.
1. we are currently just outside Waco on Lake Waco. COE Midway park with about 30 or so sites. Full because of Thxg but you can reserve ahead of time, no cost.
2. Canyon Lake south of Austin near New Brunsfel TX. There are 2 COE parks there.
Neither are very far from towns.

Don't see any connection. We have alot of fracking going on in northern Pa and all our lakes are full.Texas lakes are down because of a drought.

Randy - you probably right - No connections - The drought does seem to be picking on the Lakes North of the BRAZOS.

I was just reading about the new OIL BOOM in Texas and how they are doing it this time... The thought did cross my mind however...

Texoma/North Texas can be pretty brutal in Feb, so you probably won't see a big difference from Nebraska. COE operates a couple of nice parks on Canyon Lake, close to San Antonio, (I'm writing this from one right now), and several on Lake Belton. All are top notch and if you have a National Park Senior Pass, the campsites are half price, most running about $12 a night. That's hard to beat. Add the temperate climate and mild winters we have and that makes it a heck of a deal.

Holiday Park on Benbrook Lake near Forth Worth. Not sure about lake levels.
Hickory Creek on Lewisville Lake north of Dallas.

Spent some time in both of these last winter - Potters Creek Campground/ Canyon Lake and Holiday Campground/Benbrook Lake. Can't speak to the fishing but both are beautiful lakes. Canyon Lake is in a good location for exploring San Antonio and Benbrook for the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
