COLORADO STATE PARKS

We are planniong on staying in both Chatfield State Park ourside of Littleton co. and Cheyenne Mountain State Park in colorado. We have a 40foot motorhome towing a crv. Question is how are the roads leading to the state parks?? Any comments appreciated.
  • Thanks for the advise. Yes we have reservations 7 days at Chatfield in August and 4 dayhs at Cheyenne mt stat park. Looking forward to it
  • Nice park. Lots of room. Reservations? Thurs, Fri & Sat most likely a necessity. Sun to Thur, not so much. Been there mid week, mid summer. No problem with no reservations. It was full on the weekend.
  • Welcome to Colorado!

The roads leading to the parks are well developed highways with no issues!

Entering Chatfield off of CO 121 (Wadsworth Blvd) is more likely the entrance you will use. It is the main entrance to the park. It is a few minute drive from the entrance station to the campground loops, but not too bad. Once at the campground, you need to check in at the Camper Services Building prior to set-up, just follow the signs. Stick to the posted speed limits.

Cheyenne Mountain is south of I25 in the Springs. You go south on S. Nevada Ave (turns into CO 115). Just keep going straight, it's a straight shot all the way to the park on the opposite side of Ft. Carson. Once in the park, the roads can be a little steep, but are new and well maintained.

    Hope this helps!
  • Both Cheyenne and Chatfield and pretty much most Colorado State parks sites are booked solid through the summer during the weekends.
  • You'll have no problems with either entrance. We had no problems coming in on a Sunday last June without reservations.
  • No problem to Chatfield via either of the two entrances. I like the "back" entrance much better and it is much closer to the RV spot. Reservations are necessary and are tough to get.
  • No experience with Chatfield but the roads to Cheyenne Mountain are very good.

Good luck in finding a spot at Cheyenne Mountain this summer...
